About Me

My name is Frankie and I am a twenty two year old, unemployed, aspiring writer with abandonment issues that I’m pretty sure date back to Ginger leaving The Spice Girls, who lives with her parents in a horribly small place in the UK. I’m hoping to change all of these things as soon as possible. Not my name, I like my name, and I guess my age will change all on it’s own, but the rest of it, you get what I’m saying.
When I was younger I was a cross country runner and now I have excellent taste in television and awful taste in film - I think these two things are connected. I sort of have a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, which somehow matters even less to me than it does to any of my potential employers. I spend my time complaining about my considerably lucky lot in life, trying to smoke without alerting my parents to the fact that I smoke, writing, drinking tea, watching good television and reading any book I can get my hands on. I’m really, very enthusiastic about fiction and small animals and people with kind eyes. Sometimes I’ll love a book so much that I’ll talk about it at length and when I say length I mean this isn’t going under a cut, you’ll be scrolling past this for the next four minutes, I hope that’s okay.
I have a bunny rabbit who I love the same way Lyra loved Pantalaimon. He’s a six month old mini lop called Alfred, Lord Tennyson or Alf who enjoys hopping, licking human faces and fearless exploration of the home and garden environment. I have a best friend with whom I am absurdly co-dependent; she has a blog and is an incredibly talented film maker. I have a sister who is nineteen and redefining the term “layabout” who happens to be an artist. She has a deviant art account, because apparently it’s 2005.
My hair is kind of long, but I wish it were longer and it’s also red. When I was at university a Latvian girl told me I have the same blood type as Jesus. Last year I took a personality test that told me I was the same personality type as Shakespeare. Both of these things went to my head. I can’t drive.
Here is a list of frequently asked questions!
Where is your URL from?
T S Eliot’s The Waste Land. It’s the best poem, go read it.
What colours do you use on your hair?
Mostly Schwarzkopf Live Colour XXL in Real Red. The trick to getting it extra bright is to have a perm recently beforehand, use two packets of dye and leave it on longer than you should. Only don’t actually do these things because you’re not supposed to and I don’t want to be responsible for anyone’s head but my own swelling to the size of a melon.
What Are Your Favourite TV Shows?
At the moment, The Legend of Korra, Game of Thrones, Lip Service, Adventure Time and Grandma’s House. Generally; Avatar: The Last Airbender, Parks and Recreation, Community, Spaced, Firefly, Green Wing, The Wire, Buffy, Skins, The I.T. Crowd and Arrested Development.
What Are You Writing?
Two plays and a novel, currently, although I’ve written poetry and short stories in the past that are floating around somewhere in my writing tag. My plays are a reworking of Beauty and The Beast and a story about two girls called Kate.
My “novel” is about a girl who has recently realised, due to a combination of the fact that her face is baby bum smooth and some weird shit her Mum said, that she isn’t ageing. At the beginning she’s just turned fifty and has been living alone with her elderly step father for several decades. THEN this guy turns up and drags her away to a house full of people who are also defying the ageing process fairly impressively and she makes some friends. The rest of it is pretty much love stuff, whining and lots of talk about the nature of life and death and time AND REALLY, COULD I BE ANY MORE PREDICTABLE? There are lesbians, so yes.
It’s like Highlander meets Never Let Me Go meets Skins meets The Black Dahlia.
Oh also there is a fire and a fairly weak murder plot.
I don’t expect any of you to take any of these things seriously, god knows why I do.
Who Are Your Favourite Authors?
Jeanette Winterson, Banana Yoshimoto, Sylvia Plath, Alan Moore, Sarah Kane, Virginia Woolf, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Emily Bronte, Kazuo Ishiguro, J M Coetzee, Angela Carter, Thomas Hardy, Chuck Palahunik, John Green, T S Eliot, Lorrie Moore, William Faulkner and Jonathan Safran Foer are probably my top sixteen as of right now this moment.
Wow, there are a lot more alive people on that list than I would’ve imagined.
What Are Your Favourite Books/ Could You Recommend A Book To Me?

- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
- Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson
- The Complete Plays of Sarah Kane
- Ghost World by Daniel Clowes
- Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
- Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
- Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguru
- Watchmen by Alan Moore
- Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahunik
- Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto
- The Waste Land by T S Eliot
- The Sound and The Fury by William Faulkner
- Foe by J M Coetzee
- Ariel by Sylvia Plath
- Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis
I’ve written about the first four of these books at length, you can click through if you’re interested in reading a fairly directionless but horrifically eager review of a great work of literature.
Some book series I enjoy are Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, Strangers in Paradise and A Song of Ice and Fire.
Are you gay?
As a maypole. But yes, yeah.
Are you single?
I haven’t kissed anyone in almost a year, I’m not even going to tell you how long it’s been since anything else and the last time I went out I spent like half an hour talking to a sixty year old man called Paddy who told me that when he was young he would come into the pub with a pound and get three pints of beer, two chicken legs, a bag of crisps, a bag of pork scratchings, a pickled egg and still have five pence change and for that you could buy two portions of chips for a women called Chai who would let you have a go on her round the back of the punchbowl WHILE she ate the chips. So yes. I am single.
What Sort Of Music Do You Like?
All sorts! But my favourite musicians are Manchester Orchestra, Bright Eyes, Brand New, Florence and the Machine, Modest Mouse, Kate Bush, David Bowie, Kate Nash, Laura Marling and Billie Holiday. I also like Tegan and Sara, because, stereotypes.
